Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to execute a grant agreement with the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and accept a grant from the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund in the amount of $16,734.

The grant will support the work of the Parks and Recreation division, the Parks Maintenance division, and the Planning & Development division for the following purposes:

1.                     Parks Maintenance division - Water Safety: $4,234, to be used for purchase of new flip down signage on Park Point for rip current awareness and a billboard on I-35.

2.                     Parks Maintenance division - Rose Garden: $5,000, to be used for purchase of plant material to replace current plantings in the Rose Garden with lower disease and heartier roses.

3.                     Parks and Recreation division - Recreation Programming: $5,000, to be used for expanded Parks and Recreation division program offerings across the city. One such program, Mobile Recreation, will bring equipment and staff to a different park each week for community members to participate in activities in their neighborhood at no cost.

4.                     Planning and Development division - Duluth Flag Project: $2,500, to be used for implementation of the Duluth Flag project upon completion of the flag adoption process.

The grant proposals funded by the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund were evaluated internally before authorization was provided for application submittal. Grant proposals were then considered and recommendations made by the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund Advisory Board. Those recommendations were then taken to the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, which makes final funding awards out of this funding source.
