RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE MINNEAPOLIS FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $750 IN SUPPORT OF CENSUS 2020.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a grant from the Minneapolis Foundation in the amount of $750 to fund the operation and outreach efforts of Duluth’s Complete Count Committee, staffed by the Planning and Development division, to raise awareness about and increase participation in the 2020 Census. The $750 will be deposited to the Planning and Development division fund 110-132-1301-4660.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept a grant from the Minneapolis Foundation in the amount of $750. The $750 grant will support the work of the Complete Count Committee for the following purposes:

1.                     digital organizing

2.                     outreach to residents in high-density housing

3.                     efforts to target historically undercounted communities

Community members will start filling out the Census questionnaire in March 2020 with the intention that as many people as possible will have responded by Census Day on April 1, 2020. A complete and accurate count is important because Census data is used to allocate federal and state funding as well as to draw voting districts for local, state, and federal representation. The Complete Count Committee is composed of a cross section of community members who are utilizing their local knowledge and expertise to reach out to all persons of our community. A united voice from business, government, community-based and faith-based organizations, educators, media and others will enable the 2020 Census message to reach more of our community members and help our City complete an accurate count for the 2020 Census.
