RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AGREEMENT WITH HOMEAWAY.COM, INC. FOR COLLECTION OF LODGING EXCISE TAX FROM VACATION RENTALS.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with HOMEAWAY.COM, INC., a Delaware corporation, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit A, for collection of lodging excise tax revenues from vacation rental properties listed on their website, with funds collected to be deposited in into Fund 258 Tourism Taxes.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize an agreement with HomeAway.Com, Inc. to collect lodging excise tax payable by vacation rentals listed on their website and remitting the same to the city. HomeAway is website similar to AirB&B which lists vacation rental units on behalf of subscribing owners and collects and remits the payments from guests to them. As part of the collection process, HomeAway would collect the city’s lodging excise tax and would remit it to the city.
This is similar to an agreement that the city has with AirB&B which has proven to be highly successful and beneficial to the city.
