RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT A $380,000 GRANT FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA FOR THE LAKE SUPERIOR ZOO.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a grant from the State of Minnesota in the amount of $380,000, such funds to be used to support the operation of the Lake Superior Zoo, and to execute a grant agreement, see Exhibit A, funds to be deposited in Fund 200-130-4220-02 (zoo, community resources, State of Minnesota operating).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept a grant from the state of Minnesota for the operation of the Lake Superior Zoo and further authorizes city officials to execute the grant agreement.
This is a biennial allocation the City has received from the State since 2001 for funding Lake Superior Zoo operations. This grant represents a $60,000 increase over the 2018/2019 grant. No matching funds are required. The grant’s start date is July 1, 2019 and it expires on June 30, 2021.
This grant and a specific allocation from the city’s tourism tax fund are available to the Lake Superior Zoo each year for operating expenses. These allocations are part of the city’s agreement with the Lake Superior Zoological Society.
