RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY OFFICIALS TO SIGN A LETTER OF COMMITMENT AND A HOST SITE AGREEMENT WITH LITERACY MINNESOTA AND THE CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A LITERACY LEADERSHIP AMERICORPS VISTA MEMBER TO SERVE AT THE DULUTH PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE 2020-2021 PROGRAM YEAR AT A COST OF $5000.

CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, the city applied to host a Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA member to perform service to strengthen and supplement efforts to eliminate poverty by addressing the literacy needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, the city has been approved by Literacy Minnesota and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to host a Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA member for the 2020-2021 program year; and
WHEREAS, the city must sign a letter of commitment and enter into a host site agreement with Literacy Minnesota and CNCS which outlines the terms and conditions of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorp Vista member’s placement.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to sign a letter of commitment and a host site agreement, substantially in the form attached as Exhibit A, with Literacy Minnesota and CNCS to carry out the activities specified therein and to comply with all of the terms, conditions, and matching provisions of the host site agreement.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to make a cost share contribution of $5,000 toward the cost of the full-time Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps Vista member, to be paid from fund number 240-300-SG55-5319 (library special accounts).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes city officials to execute a letter of commitment and a host site agreement with Literacy Minnesota and CNCS for the provision of a full-time Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA member to work with staff at the Duluth Public Library on literacy and poverty issues.
