CITY PROPOSAL:

 

WHEREAS, the grant award will be used to purchase safety equipment, signage, flags, and a billboard along I-35 for rip current awareness at Park Point. 

 

WHEREAS, the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a grant from the MN Lake Superior Coastal Program grant of $11,964. Funds to be deposited to 205-130-1220-CM205-PKMTCE-20CSTL (Parks Fund, Community Resources, Parks Capital, Park Maintenance, 20CSTL project).

 

WHERAS, the city has authorization to sign the grant agreement substantially in the form of Exhibit A. Task outcomes are viewed in Exhibit B.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the acceptance of a $11,964 mn lake superior coastal program grant for safety equipment, signage, flags, and a billboard along I-35 for rip current awareness at Park Point. The Twin Ports Rip Current Work Group (representing City of Duluth Parks and Recreation and Fire Department staff, University of Minnesota Duluth - Sea Grant and Natural Resources Research Institute, the Coastal Program, YMCA/Lifeguard, Volunteer Surf Rescue, MN Department of Health, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Minnesota Point residents) exists to improve awareness of rip currents and reducing risk for people. The group collaborates in regard to beach patrol, current needs, and related research.
