Title

RESOLUTION REQUESTING REEVALUATION OF THE DESIGNATION OF WESTON-TIFFANY WINDOWS AS A LOCAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION LANDMARK.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

WHEREAS, the city council designated the Weston-Tiffany Greysolon Du Lhut window and the Weston-Tiffany Minnehaha window as local heritage preservation landmarks in Ordinances No. 10029 and 10030, adopted on May 24, 2010; and

WHEREAS, changing budgetary and policy circumstances necessitate reevaluation of assets, local heritage preservation priorities, and capabilities regarding stewardship; and

WHEREAS, reevaluation may include a recommendation to expand upon details regarding the historic nature and preservation of the windows; to modify or update information about the rationale for designation such as historic context, artistic value, or distinctive characteristics; to dedesignate the windows as local historic landmarks; or other such recommendations as developed during the reevaluation process.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council hereby requests that the administration reevaluate the referenced designation of the Weston-Tiffany windows, including through coordination, reevaluation, and appropriate public input in coordination with the heritage preservation commission.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The Weston-Tiffany windows are assets owned by the city and were designated as local heritage landmarks in 2010 following application by the city and action by the city council. The windows are currently maintained by the city through an agreement with the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center. This resolution requests that the administration reevaluate the heritage landmark designation status of the windows through appropriate processes based on adopted policies and ordinances, which would give the administration information necessary to determine whether or not a sale is an option.
