RESOLUTION AMENDING AND RESTATING RESOLUTION 20-0533R, APPOINTING ADDITIONAL ELECTION JUDGES FOR THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION.

CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, the Duluth city council passed Resolution 20-0533R on July 20, 2020 appointing election judges and the absentee ballot board for the November 3, 2020 general election;
WHEREAS, due to election judge attrition and the need to increase staffing for the general election, the city council desires to amend and restate Resolution 20-0533R.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 204B.21, the following persons are hereby appointed as election judges for the November 3, 2020 general election as listed in Attachment A.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 203B.121, the following persons are hereby appointed to serve on the absentee ballot board for the November 3, 2020 general election as listed in Attachment A.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, 204B.31, election judges shall be compensated at the rate of $10.08 per hour, absentee ballot board and chairperson election judges shall be compensated $12.00 per hour, and election support judges $15.00 per hour. In addition, election judges carrying supply returns shall be compensated for mileage at the rate of $.575 per mile.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the city council hereby finds that additional appointments may be needed prior to November 3, 2020 in order to fill expected vacancies of judges who are unable to serve and to meet the needs of state election law, including the need to maintain mandatory precinct staffing and party balance requirements.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the city clerk is hereby authorized to appoint additional election judges prior to and on November 3, 2020 as needed to fill vacancies and to meet state election law requirements, including mandatory staffing and party balance requirements.
