CITY PROPOSAL:

                     RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to accept a grant and authorize the execution of a grant agreement, substantially in the form of the attached Exhibit A from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, in the amount of $20,000, said funds to be deposited in fund 268, agency 031, organization 6228, (workforce development, grants division, miscellaneous grants), and committed for the purpose of providing refurbished computers, Wi-Fi hotspots, and digital navigation services to job seekers who lack access to technology at home.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the acceptance of a grant in an amount of $20,000 funded by the Anonymous Friend Fund, Barnum fund and the Weckwerth-Sampson Family Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation to serve jobseekers who lack access to technology at home.  The primary populations will be those served through partner agencies who are enrolled in workforce programs at CareerForce in Duluth.  These populations include veterans; individuals with disabilities; MFIP and SNAP recipients; Opportunity Youth between the ages of 16 and 24; low-income older adults over age 55; high school students who are low-income, homeless, pregnant and parenting, engaged with the juvenile justice system, are in foster care, or have an IEP or 504 plan; laid-off workers; low-income adults; and adults with barriers to employment.
