Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the purchase of a 2022 cab and chassis, and outfitting the same for snow removal and sanding operations.  This unit will replace unit 3437.

The 2014-2015 Fleet Study found that, in order to minimize total City vehicle costs for purchase and maintenance, vehicles of this kind should be replaced when they reach 12 years old.  Unit 3437, purchased in 2009 for $105,724, is 9 years old and has incurred $182,150.57 (172% of its value) in maintenance costs to date. This unit has been highly problematic and unreliable.

The cab and chassis purchase is against Minnesota State contract 124640, release T-647(5). The outfitting purchase is against Minnesota state contract 167117, release S-863(5).  The purchase price will be further reduced by the trade-in value of unit 3437, which will be determined at the time of trade-in in the spring of 2022.
