RESOLUTION PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE HEALTH STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE OUTCOMES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. 

 

Body

BY COUNCILORS KENNEDY, SIPRESS, TOMANEK AND FORSMAN:

                     WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose a severe health threat to the citizens in the city of Duluth community; and

                     WHEREAS, the seven day average infection rate for COVID-19 in St. Louis county was 24.6 on May 14, 2021, which is approximately the same as it was in September of 2020; and

                     WHEREAS, 47.46 percent of people in St. Louis county are fully vaccinated and 52.78 percent are partially vaccinated; and

                     WHEREAS, there are still community members who have not had the opportunity to get vaccinated; and

                     WHEREAS, some local businesses wish to continue requiring face masks for both their employees and customers; and

                     WHEREAS, our community has seen declining cases by following CDC guidelines for physically distancing, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and wearing masks.

                     THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that as the council repeals the mandatory mask ordinance, the administration and council will continue to promote responsible health strategies collaboratively with our local public healthcare providers and health organization to improve our outcomes during this COVID-19 pandemic.

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the council supports local businesses as they create appropriate and safe health policies for their employees and customers.

                     

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to promote responsible health strategies to continue reducing the spread of COVID-19 even as the mask ordinance is repealed.  The council continues to promote the importance of vaccinations, social distancing, good hygiene, and wearing masks in situations social distancing is difficult.
