CITY PROPOSAL:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a Bright Cities Small Grant Program grant in the amount of $10,000 from Healthy Babies, Bright Futures and the Mayor’s Innovation Project to research sustainable purchasing opportunities. No city match is required for this grant.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept and execute a grant from Healthy Babies, Bright Futures and the Mayor’s Innovation Project in the amount of $10,000 to carry out a pilot project to research sustainable purchasing opportunities in fiscal years 2021-2022.

The city of Duluth aims to set a more sustainable example for the community, make public spaces healthier, and reduce disparities in public health. The Bright Cities Small Grant program offers cities the opportunity to review and ensure the reduction of toxins such as arsenic, flame retardants, lead, mercury, organophosphate pesticides, and others in city purchases that will benefit both community and worker health.

 

This grant does not require a match. The estimated staff time required to complete grant activities will be approximately 85 hours including: Sustainability Officer (25 hours), Purchasing Agent (10 hours), and Departmental leader interviews (5 staff x 10 hours = 50 hours).
