RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION EXPLORE WAYS TO ATTRACT TELEVISION, FILM AND CONTENT CREATION IN THE CITY OF DULUTH AND REPORT BACK TO THE COUNCIL.

BY COUNCILOR FORSMAN:

                     WHEREAS, the television and film production arts are a multi-billion dollar industry that employs millions of people in the United States; and

                     WHEREAS, the state of Minnesota and St. Louis County have recently passed production incentives that are designed to draw businesses to the region; and

                     WHEREAS, Duluth’s natural beauty, history, and local talent make the city an attractive place to create a variety of production arts; and

                     WHEREAS, Duluth already has some of the resources needed to compete in the production arts industry; and

                     WHEREAS, communities in St. Louis County, including Duluth, are poised for economic growth in the production arts industry and enhanced community vibrancy by attracting more investment and projects to the region; and

                     WHEREAS, local talent exists and continues to grow in providing and supporting the production arts industry with local artists, blue-collar labor, and skilled trade workers.

                     THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council requests the city administration explore financial and non-financial ways to attract more television, film and content creation in Duluth and report back to the council with recommendations by 11/1/2021.
