RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF LATERAL FIREFIGHTER, AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of lateral firefighter (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on September 1, 2021, are approved. This classification shall be subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its fire unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Step E of Range 226, pay rate of $5,285 per month.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The new classification of lateral firefighter has been created to help attract and retain firefighters with three or more years of full-time career experience. Recruiting for firefighters is becoming more difficult, and creating this new classification will help attract experienced firefighters that hopefully want to spend their career with the city of Duluth. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Step E of Range 226, pay rate of $5,285 per month.
