CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Trane for an overhaul of the service chiller in the amount of $64,752.00, payable from 540-0920-1491-5310 (steam, steam department, steam chiller plant, contract services).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the purchase of a service chiller overhaul, including absorber eddy current tube testing, from Trane in the total amount of $64,752.00.
The service chiller is a specialized steam absorption chiller which requires OEM expertise. Trane is the industry expert in chilled water systems and the OEM supplier for this particular system.
The chilled water system provides air conditioning to the County buildings, Federal building, Duluth News Tribune and the former water and gas building. In addition to the previously-approved solution pump installation which Trane will perform next month, an overhaul of the service chiller will ensure that all components are functioning optimally and help minimize the likelihood of downtime in future cooling seasons.
