CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Badger Meters, Inc. for the purchase of water meters in the amount of $646,0100, payable from 510-500-1905-5533, UtilB-ARPWF1 (water, Public Works and Utilities, capital [incl deprec/debt svcs] capital improvements-revenue; utility projects budgeted, ARP water meter replacement).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the purchase of 820 water meters, sizes 1 ½-inch to 4-inch, from Badger Meters, Inc.
This purchase replaces obsolete, lead-based bronze water meters to be compliant with the 2011 Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act. The bronze alloy used in the current water meters contains lead; the new meters are lead-free, metal-bodied. The purchase will be paid with funds from the American Rescue Plan and will save residential water customers over $150 versus using traditional funding methods, lessening the impact on those who can’t afford an increase in utility costs.
The City Purchasing Division issued an Invitation for Bids on November 5, 2021, and received one bid. After review and cost analysis, Badger Meter’s bid was determined to be responsive and reasonable.
