RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF MINNESOTA TO CONTINUE THE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE TEAM FROM STATE FISCAL YEAR 2022 THROUGH 2027 IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $1,425,000 AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF MINNESOTA.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to accept a joint powers agreement, substantially in the form of Exhibit A, with the State of Minnesota, Commissioner of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division, in an amount not to exceed $1,425,000, said funds to be deposited in fund no. 210-030-3192-4220-02 (special projects, finance, emergency response team, state of Minnesota operation grants), for the purpose of funding costs associated with management, staffing, and operation of a regional Hazardous Materials Response team.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize acceptance of a joint powers agreement to continue the operation of the Hazardous Materials Response team. The terms of this agreement will fund the Hazardous Materials Response team from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2027 via reimbursements not to exceed $285,000 each state fiscal year. The Duluth Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response team is dedicated to regional response to incidents and emergency response as outlined in the joint powers agreement.
