AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 39 OF THE DULUTH CITY CHARTER PERTAINING TO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS - FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES BY POLITICAL COMMITTEES.

CITY PROPOSAL:

                     Section 1.                     That Section 39 of the 1912 Home Rule Charter of the city of Duluth, as amended is hereby repealed.

                     Section 2.                      That this ordinance shall take effect 90 days after its passage and publication.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this ordinance is to repeal Section 39 of the Duluth City Charter pertaining to municipal elections and financial disclosures by political committees.  On October 24, 2023, the city of Duluth charter commission recommended to the city council that Section 39 of the Duluth Charter be repealed.  Notice of a public hearing with a copy of the proposed charter change was published in the local paper on October 28, 2023.  The public hearing was held on November 13, 2023.  This ordinance must receive an affirmative vote of all city councilors and be approved by the mayor.
