RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH ASTROTURF CORPORATION FOR BROWN TURF REPLACEMENT AT WADE STADIUM FOR A TOTAL NOT TO EXCEED $261,836.00.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to contract with Astroturf Corporation for brown turf replacement at Wade Stadium for a total not to exceed $261,836.00, payable from fund 450-030-5535; CP450-WADE (capital improvements, Finance, non-capital improvements; capital projects - other fund contributions - Wade Stadium refurbishment).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes a contract with Astroturf Corporation for replacement of the brown-shaded artificial turf located in the infield of Wade Stadium for a total not to exceed $261,836.00.

The heavily used brown infield turf has reached the end of its usable life and must be replaced this year in order to enable continued play in 2025. Costs include mobilization, removal and offsite disposal of existing synthetic turf and infill, stone, installation, and warranty.  Pricing for the brown turf replacement is off of State of Minnesota Sourcewell Contract No. 031622-AST.

The project will be paid for with proceeds from a one-half-of-one-percent increment in City of Duluth tourism taxes authorized by the City Council and the State of Minnesota Legislature to fund $36 million in capital improvements to parks-based public athletic facilities that support sports tourism and quality of life.

Council Resolution 23-0098R preliminarily allocated $1.2 million of these funds for time-sensitive repairs to Wade Stadium. This turf replacement project will be paid for with a portion of those funds. The remaining $938,164 has been earmarked to replace the failing roof of Wade Stadium later this year.
