RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT A $42,543 GRANT AWARD FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, TO BE USED TO REIMBURSE THE DULUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR FIFTY PERCENT OF THE WAGES PAID TO COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERS PARTICIPATING IN THE PATHWAY TO POLICING PROGRAM.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a grant award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, pathway to policing reimbursement grant program, in the total amount of $42,543, said monies to be used by the Duluth Police Department toward the cost of compensating and training Pathway to Policing participants who are working to obtain state peace officer licensure, and further are authorized to execute a grant agreement substantially the same as the attached Document A, funds to be deposited in Fund No. 215-200-2243-4220-02 (Duluth police grant programs, police, Pathways to Policing, State of MN Operating) expenses to be paid from Fund No. 215-200-2243-5700-10 (Duluth police grant programs, police, Pathways to policing, Interfund transfer out to general fund).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept a grant in the total amount of $42,543 from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, for the Pathway to Policing program. This program is aimed at attracting persons with nontraditional backgrounds into law enforcement careers. These are grant reimbursement monies that will provide fifty percent of the cost of compensating and training Pathway to Policing participants who are working to obtain state peace officer licensure.  The grant period is from May 1, 2024 through March 31, 2026.
