AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THE MULTIFAMILY RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL (BELANGER BLOCK - 1916) BUILDING AS A DULUTH HERITAGE PRESERVATION LANDMARK

CITY PROPOSAL:

The city of Duluth does ordain:

                     Section 1. Under the authority of Section 50-37.8 of the Duluth Legislative Code, 1959, as amended, the city of Duluth does designate the Multifamily Residential/Commercial Store Front building (Belanger Block - 1916) at 2403 West 6th Street, as a Duluth heritage preservation landmark, as documented in Attachment 1 (PL 23-224 3.11.24 Memo to HPC);

Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force 30 days from and after its passage and publication.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This ordinance designates the Multifamily Residential/Commercial Store Front building (Belanger Block - 1916) at 2403 West 6th Street, as a Duluth heritage preservation landmark. On March 11, 2024, the Duluth Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) voted 6 yeas, 0 nays to recommend the landmark designation, with a stipulation to the motion that serious consideration be given to renovation and reuse of the building. Preceding this action was a public meeting held by the HPC on February 12, 2024, and a recommendation to proceed by the Planning Commission on February 13, 2024.
