RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE CRIME VICTIM SERVICES PROSECUTORIAL GRANT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, EXTENDING THE TERM OF THE AGREEMENT THROUGH DECEMBER 2026 AND PROVIDING AN ADDITIONAL $17,500 TO PARTIALLY FUND THE VICTIM SERVICES SPECIALIST POSITION IN THE CITY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE FOR 2026.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to execute an amendment to the crime victim services prosecutorial grant agreement, city contract no. 24976, substantially in the form of the attached Exhibit A, with the Minnesota department of public safety, office of justice programs, to extend the term of the agreement through December 2026 and accept additional grant funds in the amount of $17,500 for a total amount not to exceed $87,500 for the FY 2026 victim services position, said funds should be deposited into fund no. 210-030-3126-4210-02 (Special Projects, Finance, Crime Victims Grant, Pass-Thru Federal Grants Operating).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes acceptance of an additional $17,500 grant award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs.  The OJP is changing their grant year to coincide with the calendar year. Therefore, in order to avoid a gap in funding for the last quarter of calendar year 2026, OJP is awarding these additional monies to partially fund the .8 FTE victim services specialist position in the city attorney’s office for the remainder of the 2026 calendar year.  The victim services specialist works with prosecutors to provide statutorily required victim services using a victim-centered approach.
