Friends of the Library Report April 2026

The Board for the Friends of the Duluth Public Library (“Friends”) met on March 17, 2026, via Zoom.
• The Board voted to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Duluth Library Foundation (“Foundation”) and the Friends. As previously reported, the MOU outlines the duties of each organization and the areas where the two organizations can assist each other, but the MOU makes clear that the two organizations will remain independently operated.
• The Board discussed the possibility of inviting the members of the Library Board and the Foundation Board to join the Friends mailing list, even if some of those individuals are not members of the Friends organization.
• The Board continued to discuss the need for more members to take an active role in leadership positions.
• The idea of a membership campaign was discussed, and a Nominating Committee was formed to make recommendations to the Board regarding individuals to fill the leadership roles on the Board.
• The Friends’ annual meeting is May 19, 2026, from 4:00-5:30 pm in the Green Room at the Library’s Downtown location. The Library Board is invited to attend as guests. No RSVP is necessary.
• During National Library Week the Friends will have a table at the Foundation’s Take Action for Libraries event on April 23, 2026, at the Depot.
