Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF THE UPDATED MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE MAGNEY-SNIVELY DESIGNATED NATURAL AREA.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Updated Management Plan for the Magney-Snively Designated Natural Area, attached hereto as Exhibit 1, is hereby approved by the Duluth City Council and the appropriate city officials are authorized to take all necessary action to implement the Management Plan.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Management Plans are a required component of the Duluth Natural Areas Program (DNAP). The original Management Plan for Magney-Snively was developed in 2003 and was outdated. This updated plan follows the DNAP’s current plan format and provides City staff and partners with a prioritized set of Management Actions to guide stewardship of this designated natural area.

The Duluth Natural Areas Program was established in City Code to preserve Duluth’s natural heritage for the public good by protecting lands of special environmental significance. This Management Plan was prepared by the City’s Natural Resources Coordinator with assistance from an Advisory Committee composed of natural resource professionals and representatives of recreational groups that use the area.

Partial funding for this plan was provided through the Minnesota Land Trust via a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Sustain Our Great Lakes Program (Grant No. 79193), Habitat Restoration for Birds in the St. Louis River Estuary, Duluth, Minnesota.
